One of the most common and often serious problems faced by healthcare providers in hospitals is patient falls.   Hospital falls represent a leading cause of adverse events, accounting for 25%-89% of all reported incidents. Geriatric wards and patients with prolonged hospitalization report the highest fall and disability rates.

STEADI – Stopping Elderly Accidents, Deaths and Injury

The CDC offers great resources for reducing falls and fall related injuries.  The Stopping Elderly Accidents, Deaths & Injuries (STEADI) Tool Kit is a suite of materials created by CDC’s Injury Center for health care providers. The STEADI Tool Kit resources can be used to help assess, treat, and refer older adult patients based on their fall risk.  The  STEADI Tool Kit was adapted from the American and British Geriatric Societies’ Clinical Practice Guideline.
